1 Study in Short, Frequent Sessions.
It has been proven that short bursts of concentration repeated frequently are much more effective than one long session. So, even if you only have 10 minutes, DO IT. Take a break. Then study another 10 minutes. This “distributed learning” approach is highly efficient because it honours the way the brain likes to work. The brain needs recovery and recharging time for “protein synthesis.” The rest periods are when your brain assimilates your effort. They are a powerful tool which many teachers do not acknowledge. To sit and study for hours and hours is not only boring, it creates fatigue, stress, and distraction. You cannot learn if you are fatigued, stressed, and distracted!
2 Take Guilt-Free Days of Rest.
This follows the same principle as above, but on a longer, daily time cycle. The reason for resting is to refresh oneself. However, if you feel guilty (“I really should be studying”) then your precious rest period has been used to create more stress. The brain will not absorb new data if it is stressed. On days off from studying, really enjoy yourself and do not feel bad about not studying.
3 Honour Your Emotional State.
Do not study if you are tired, angry, distracted, or in a hurry. When the brain is relaxed, it is like a sponge and it naturally absorbs data without effort. If you are emotionally stressed, your brain literally repels data. Forcing yourself to sit and study when your mind is on other things is a complete waste of time!
4 Reviews the Same Day.
When you learn something new, try to go over the points the same day. If you wait a few days and then make efforts to review the material, it will seem much less familiar. However, a quick review later in the day will tend to cement the information into your brain so that the next “official” study session, you will recognize it and it will seem easy.
5 Observe the Natural Learning Sequence.
Think of the activities you did when you were in nursery school. Using your whole arm, you probably performed the song that goes: “Put your right hand in, Put your right hand out.” Then, in kindergarten, using your hand, you might have been asked to draw lines or circles with crayons. Later, in first grade, now holding the pencil with your fingers, you drew smaller lines and circles to create letters. Believe it or not, this natural learning sequence, moving from large to small, coarse to fine, still remains effective even though we are now older. When you study, if you try first to grasp the big picture and then fill in the details, you often have a more likely chance of success.
6 Use Exaggerations.
Why does a baseball batter warm up by swinging two or three bats? Why do runners sometimes strap lead weights to their legs? In both cases, exaggeration during practice makes the final result seem easy. This concept can be applied to studying anything. For example, if you are studying spelling, exaggerate the sound of the letters to help to remember them. So for studying purposes, “naive” would be pronounced “NAY-IVY.” By getting used to this exaggerated pronunciation, the correct spelling seems obvious.
7 Prepare Your Study Environment.
If you require certain elements in your environment to help you study, try to always make these a priority. For example, do you need special lighting, silence, music, privacy, available snacks, etc.? Pay attention to what works for you and repeat it each time you study for best success.
8 Respect “Brain Fade.”
It is normal for the brain to have an attrition rate and to forget things. This does not mean that you are stupid! Instead of getting mad about this fact, you should expect it and deal with it accordingly. See your brain as depositing layers of knowledge. As you place more information on top, the lower levels become older and less available to your immediate recall. The trick here is simply to review. Since we can anticipate the eventual fading of our memory, creating a review aspect to our study session will solve the problem. Once every two or three study sessions, simply review older material that you will be still needing to remember. Often, a quick overview is sufficient. Sometimes, a complete detailed study session of the older material is required. “Brain fade” is completely normal. (Unless you are gifted with a photographic memory, which is extremely rare.)
9 Create a Study Routine.
Generally, if you schedule certain times of the day to study, you will get into a routine and accomplish more. If you just “fit it in” during your day, chances are that there will never be any time. An effective way to do this is to literally mark it down in your datebook calendar as if you have an appointment, like going to the doctor. For example: “Tuesday 3-4:30 P.M. — Study.”
10 Set Reasonable Goals.
One of the main reasons people do not reach their goals is because they set them too high. If you set goals that are manageable, even if they seem too simple, you get in the habit of accomplishing them and gradually you can set higher goals. Also, recognize the difference between long-term and short-term goals. Set your vision on the long-term dream, but your day-to-day activity should be focused exclusively on the short-term, enabling steps.
11 Avoid the Frustration Enemy.
Ironically, the quicker the person’s nervous system, the faster they learn. Yet, this fast nervous system also works overtime in being self-critical. So they are the ones who always think they aren’t going fast enough! In contrast, the “Type B,” less intense person who learns slower yet is more self-accepting, ends up ultimately learning the material in a shorter period of time. This is because he/she doesn’t waste energy blocking, getting upset, and thinking that they’re not good enough — they simply keep moving forward at a slower (but un-blocked) pace.

November exam winning strategy

Dear friends and members
There is four more months for November examination.  Even if you had not done your preparation well also have possibility to clear your forthcoming November exam. You can crack the November exam but need to do exploit the remaining time in the best possible manner. This is a comprehensive outlook for clearing your November exam
1.     Understand the mistake you had committed during the previous exam first and take a firm decision that you will never ever going to commit the same again. Also never give any loop hole for making a new mistake.
2.     Frame a good schedule and time table for your preparation for this period. Try to do the maximum possible effort to adhere with the time table.
3.     Keep away the time consuming entertainment such as watching movies, chatting through the net, even visiting your favorite web site CA Club India. You must be addicted towards the studies.
4.     Priorities the chapter according to the importance for exam. Give maximum Focus for the important chapters and cover the least important chapter also. You can give priority to the chapter with the help of scanners, suggested answers etc.
5.     Make the habit of making notes. Document the key points in the notes. But once you read the key points you must be in a position to understand the whole thing. If not, you had not got the concepts.
6.     Periodic revision. Three round revision is highly recommended. First revision need to be done within 2 days with the help of your key notes and the second round need to be done within the same week and the last round revision is to be done once in a month.
7.     Mnemonic technique
If you want to memorize many points at a time, this will be helpful..

G   Going concern
C    Consistency
A    Accuracy

10. Effectiveness learning during the last round of revision before exam
If you can able to understand at least 60 % of the chapter you had learned     effectively during the last revision point then there are no problems with you for your exam.
11. Time management
Divide the total time by total mark and try to finish within the schedule.
If you are not finished a particular question better leave that point of time and if you have time at the end, come back and write it off.
12. Good presentation
Try to write point wise with the heading and sub heading and put a number in the margin.
Don’t write irrelevant points and essay style. (If you see the suggested answer, it is in essay form, it is not the right presentation)
Try to include your own points also.
13. Conceptual clarity for Cost and FM, MAFA, Cost management problems
For cracking cost and FM, you must require conceptual clarity. This is not an easy. Some were facing a lot of difficulty to catch the concepts.
Two option for making sound conceptual mind
Buy a good reference book and understand the relevant concepts solve the problem without referring the Solution. If you struck with the problem, remove the block by referring the blocked point. Commit the mistake and correct the mistake. Do more problems from the same book too.
                               OR
Go for good coaching classes and understand the concept do more exercise too. Never depend overly on the coaching material.
14. Inter linking concepts for securing good mark Audit and Law papers
If a question set regarding Going concern, you just not write what is going concern but you need to connect wherever going concern concepts appear.
In As 1 Going concern assumption is there
In SAP also going concern concepts is there
This is also applicable to Law papers also.
16. Be mentally prepared for CA exam.
Some time the question may be too lengthy.
Some other time the questions were indirect in nature.
Some cases the questions show the surprise character.
Never loose your confidence during the exam under whatever the question may be.
17. during the exam
Come at least 15 minute sit in the exam hall. Write your roll number and be prepared for writing
After receiving the question paper just make a fast round of reading. No need to go deeply. This will help you where to start and how to start.
Start with an easy question first. Set a time for completion and the toughest question need to be taken during the last hours of the exam.
Never discuss the exam with your friends after completion of the exam it will kill your next exam confidence.

Wish you all the best

Self study Vs. Coaching classes-By Ankur Garg

Self study Vs. Coaching classes-A Whole new dimension with analysis

Hello Members,

One of the huge questions in front of the students is to decide whether to go for self study or for coaching. Through this write up I have tried to analyse certain untouched aspects of self study and very hopeful that this article would be able to provide certain guiding principles/suggestions to the student community.

Personally I feel that Self study is a very good option for every student because without self study it is very difficult to clear any examination. The main reason behind this thinking is coaching also involves a remarkable amount of self study. Later on in this write up we’ll discuss this point. Another reason to go for self study is the confidence factor involved in it. Successful self study may give you an incredible amount of confidence to deal with any kind of subject or course.

Further we have to understand one more thing quite clearly that self study or coaching classes are not the sole deciding factor as far as success in professional examination is concerned. You may find various examples around you. There are many students who have cleared their exams quite easily just by doing self study and some of the students who have taken coaching are still struggling or vice versa. So the main decisive factor is your honest efforts and commitment towards your preparation and nothing else. Let us discuss certain pre-conditions for self study entirely based on my personal observation.

Pyramid /Hierarchical Structure of Self Study

ROLE OF TEACHERS/SENIORS IN SELF STUDY

1. Proper guidance regarding how to start your study from your teacher or from some senior student is very much important rather I would say it is indispensible. Main reason behind this point is a lot of theory content or material in the study module and reference books is totally irrelevant from the exam point of view and only someone senior can guide you regarding this vital and energy saving point.

2. Have regular discussions with your friends or seniors regarding exam oriented topics which you simply failed to understand during self study. As per my personal opinion this point is very important and plays a decisive role during self study and gives you and the other person a very good chance to interact with each other in a prolific way.

3. Selection of correct reference books is another essential pre-condition for self study. It is also advisable to collect all the reference books well in advance. One more thing time to time reference from your study module is also very important.

Along with selection of reference books in advance it is also advisable to collect exam oriented notes from the very beginning and stick to them. Kindly check the link below to download some useful exam oriented notes:

4. Kindly consider this point as a serious advice. During self study most of the time you study alone without interaction to anyone else. So self study may be a failure if you continue your prepare without interaction with anybody else. Remember a healthy and a light chit-chat can give your brain a much awaited relaxation and energy.

5. There are certain topics like direct tax at Final level for which special preparation or specific coaching is required and self study may not be sufficient from the point of view of conceptual clarity. So discuss these topics with your friends or with any experienced faculty/student to bring clarity of concept.

ROLE OF TIME MANAGEMENT IN SELF STUDY

6. Another pre-condition for self study is availability of time. Going for self study may be a bit risky when there is lack of time like you are preparing for other professional course simultaneously or busy in your job etc. In other words ample amount of time to study and superior time management plays an important role in self study.

7. Time management and study routine also plays an important role during self study. If you are not able to follow a set routine of study than in that case self study may be a complete disaster as in self study there is always a danger of lack of discipline. Main reason behind this probable lack of discipline is that there is no fear of coaching classes or tuition work and you are the sole ruler of your own wish. So in self study 100% commitment and study routine is very essential.

BE FOCUSED AND FIRM DURING SELF STUDY AS SCOPE OF SELF STUDY IS MUCH WIDER THAN WE USED IN COMMON PARLANCE

8. Let me tell you a very important thing rather a fact that coaching also involves self study where as self study does not involve coaching. This point is really easy to understand. Reason behind this observation is that in coaching classes only concepts are discussed once or twice. But you have to understand those concepts on your own by self study only. A teacher can only teach you the method and discuss one or two examples but ultimate effort is required from your side to understand that method by practice of more questions connected with that particular method. So in this way we can say that coaching also involves self study and has much wider scope than we normally understand in common usage and without understanding the true meaning and components of self study it would be very difficult for anyone to clear any examination. Hope you all are agree with me w.r.t. this point/observation. Kindly visit the link below for certain exam tips and suggestions:

9. Next pre-condition for self study is the thorough knowledge of your course content so you must do a small R&D about the course contents by going through the syllabi to figure out what is relevant and what is irrelevant.

10. Last but certainly not the least pre-condition of self study is analysis of your strength and weakness as you are the sole owner of your strength and weakness. Only you can utilize your strength and weakness in the best possible manner. You may analyse your strength in the following manner --- if you are more confident in solving practical problems as compare to your approach towards theory preparation and presentation then you must devote extra time to improve your theory preparation and presentation skills and vice versa.

SELF STUDY Vs. COACHING CLASSES – A MUCH AWAITED COMPARISON

COACHING CLASSES

Coaching is not a bad idea at all especially for certain demanding subjects like Direct Tax etc. Reason behind this point of view is not only the technicalities involved in the subject but also the need and confidence desired for the future professional working and practice.

One of the outstanding benefits of coaching is interaction or networking with an enormous group of people which is very essential in today’s competitive environment where networking is kind of indispensible. Further the proper guidance provided by the professional teachers/tutors along with exam oriented handouts is one of the major motives for students to go for coaching.

Alarm: But here we must understand one thing very clearly that the above facilities involve a huge amount of financial burden as far as your pocket is concerned which may not be possible for every parent or student to bear. Another shortcoming/risk involved with coaching class is your interaction with faculty. If you failed to cope up with teaching style of faculty than there may be some serious problem.

SELF STUDY

As mentioned above self study is one of the essential components of coaching classes and no coaching can be successful without the input or flavor of self study. One of the major benefits of self study is that it is cost and time effective and makes you compatible for the preparation of any kind of professional course. Self study also saves your energy which is required for coaching classes.

It also removes your dependency on coaching classes and you can start your study immediately after registration. Self study is the real key which is directly connected to your confidence level

Alarm: We must remember one thing while going for Self study that Self study is a bit time consuming process and a lot of R&D is involved in it to succeed. In other words Self study demanded extra time to complete the course for which you have to prepare yourself mentally. A lot of discipline, planning and guts required to go for Self study. However personally I feel that all the above mentioned alarms are easily maintainable if you are well aware of your strength and weakness and deal with the situation accordingly.

Disclaimer:  The content and every thought used in this article is based on my personal observation and understanding. This Article is completely my work and not copied from anywhere.

Wish you all the Best

Real-time tips to deal with practical paper: Account & Cost By Ankur Garg

Dear Students and Members,
Please find below some tips to deal with practical paper like Account & Cost etc. These
tips are based on my personal observation and used by me in all my professional
Examinations. This Article is completely written by me and not copied from anywhere.
Hope this Article would be off some help in your Exam preparation:
1. After receiving the paper in your hand give it a quick look and decide the
question you are going to attempt first. Also decide the question you are going
to attempt last. I urge you to consider this point very important for a good start
of your exam.
2. Allocate a fix time for each question. After allocation it is your duty to finish the
question with in the given time limit.
3. As per my understanding presentation of theory always plays an important role
whether it is theory (Law & Audit) paper or numerical (Account, cost etc.) paper.
So keep your examination copy neat and clean without any cutting.
4. In the beginning don’t read all the questions carefully as in the beginning you
have enough time to read it twice or thrice. Read the second question carefully
only after solving the first question as decided by you in accordance with point
No. 1 of this Article.
5. Super Suggestion-1: When you give first reading to a lengthy question – Note
down all the amount/figures given in the question separately. Two benefit of this
exercise are:
i) When you solve the question you don’t have to search the
amount/figure in the lengthy question again and lot of time saved.
ii) Chances of missing any point or amount/figure minimize.
6. Don’t change the book again and again. First focus on understanding the concept
and then practice the selected book. After solving a particular author’s book
solve all the questions of scanner without any help.
7. Super Suggestion-2: This point helps you to deal with lengthy course and
improve your revision strategy. Select easy chapters as per your strength and
gain tremendous confidence by practicing more & more questions. After gaining

enough confidence remove that chapter from your final revision list. Now no
need to revise that chapter during final revision and be confident about that
chapter.
8. Super Suggestion-3: After completing one practical chapter select some
landmark question from that chapter which covers almost all technicalities and
adjustments of that chapter. Revise this selected question during final revision to
recall whole chapter.
You may also put this question in ATLAS. [For ATLAS technique refer my
previous Article]
9. Compulsory Question: Prepare special strategy for C.Q. Give a quick reading to
C.Q. if you are comfortable with the adjustments given in C.Q. then only attempt
C.Q. otherwise attempt other small questions. If you attempt C.Q. without any
strategy and lost in the middle of question then “confidence ki to watt lag jayagi
mamu”. So be careful.
10. Cost Accounting: First understand cost accounting is a conceptual paper. You can
not succeed in cost account without understanding the concept. So work very
hard to make your concepts crystal clear.
11. For preparation of cost account first understand the concept from study by
practicing study material questions. After that practice scanner and compilation
questions.
12. Operation Research: In O.R. paper my first advice would be workout on your
mathematical concepts as mathematical skills are really required to excel in O.R.
Paper.
13. In O.R. paper practice of ample number of numerical questions is very much
required. So after understanding the concept practice more and more questions
first from study and scanner and then from any recommended book.
14. Prepare yourself mentally to solve a lengthy question paper. Use scanner to
understand the question paper pattern and prepare yourself a strategy to deal
with it.
15. Theory Part: In practical paper also theory paper plays an important role. As per
my advice prepare your theory notes yourself well in advance including the
answers of frequently asked questions. This process helps you to understand the
concept and save your time to search theory part here & there at the exam time.
However if you got some really good notes you may use them.
16. Importance of Module Questions: As per my suggestion also practice the
questions given in the study material provided by ICAI especially when you opt
self study. However if you are taking professional coaching then you may avoid
study material questions as normally notes provided in private coaching includes
study material questions.
17. While attempting theory questions give ‘to the point’ answers. Excess theory
may waste your time and spoil your exam.
18. Super Suggestion-4: Use one pen: In exam hall use only one pen. Use of this
practice will save at-least 4-5 minutes i.e. time equal to write a short note. Hope
you can understand the importance of this point.
19. Underline relevant point: You may underline the relevant point by using the
same colour pen. Don’t use highlighter in the exam.
20. Working Note: Use working note method to improve presentation of your
question. Whenever you use calculated figure in the question always mention
working note no. in the bracket. For example working note no. 1 or 2 and so on.
21. Continue your question as per your concept and assumptions. Never try to
match your answer with anybody else.
22. While solving practical questions full focus and concentration is required. So you
have to be very calm and cool during your exam. Never make hurry when you
are in the middle of a question. It may spoil your question.
23. Query Notebook: Keep a query diary with you during study time and note your
queries in this diary and resolve them same day or next day. Do not keep your
query unresolved. Don’t forget to mention answer of your query in the query
diary.
24. Complete your paper: Try and make an effort to complete your paper 100%. In
other words attempt full paper of 100 marks to fetch some extra marks.
25. If any numerical question is completely out of your reach or in case you fail to
understand the adjustments given in the question then leave that question
immediately and move ahead. Attempt this question in the end.
26. If this is your second attempt then finish revision of your first book as early as
possible. Later on add a new book to practice more numerical questions.
27. Have a one hour group discussion with your friends regarding selected exam
oriented important topic. Discuss all the theoretical and practical aspects about
that selected topic.
28. Don’t use different notes rather I would suggest select your notes before starting
final Examination preparation and stick with them. 10 Days before exam stop
adding new topics in your schedule. Just follow your revision schedule strictly.
29. Take care of your Health: Take very good care of your health. Consider your
health as a subject. Remember if you fail to perform well in this subject you are
going to fail.
30. In the end just believe in yourself and your hard work and most importantly
believe in God.
Thanks & Regards,

Real-time Tips to deal with theory paper: Audit and Law By Ankur Garg

Dear Students and Members,
Please find below some tips to deal with theory paper like Audit and Law. These tips are
based on my personal observation and used by me in all my professional Examinations.
This Article is completely written by me and not copied from anywhere. Hope this
Article would be off some help in your Exam preparation:
1. First of all figure out the length of your course content and prepare yourself
mentally.
2. Use Scanner from the very beginning. It helps you to recognize which chapter is
to be given preference.
3. Prepare a list of Chapter wise frequently asked questions from the Scanner and
prepare them properly.
4. Above 3 exercise surly help you a lot when you give first reading to your book or
during your coaching.
5. Try and develop a sense to figure out excess study material from the exam point
of view and cross that material immediately in your book. Study Material
provided by the institute is not updated most of the times and full of totally
irrelevant material/theory.
6. If you have time prepare notes only for important topics along with frequently
asked question’s solution.
7. In Exams don’t write your answer in paragraphs. Try and mention it in point wise
details with relevant section and case laws.
8. Use of Sections: As per my opinion you shouldn’t ask anybody about the
relevance of quoting sections in Exams. It is off course extremely useful in law
subjects especially in CA Exams. Try and quote section in your exams without any
hesitation. Prepare a special strategy for remembering sections. If you make it a
habit now it will 100% pay at the time of your final preparation.
9. You may also mention Registrar of Companies E-forms while writing your answer
in Examinations.
For example if you are answering the question “Transfer of Registered Office of a
Company with in city”. You, after mentioning the procedure of transfer, may also
mention that Company is required to file form 18 with Registrar of Companies
with in 30 days of passing the Resolution in Board Meeting.
10. Very Important Revision Tips: What you prepare on Monday try and recall it on
Tuesday without using books. If you are able to recall 60%-70%, then you are
100% going to succeed in this examination. Again try to recall the same after the
gap of 2-3 days.
11. Use abbreviation method. If you have 10 points to remember in a question give
them a certain abbreviation and remember that abbreviation. See the example
below:
In section 293 of Companies Act, 1956 there are 5 clauses from (a) to (e). My
abbreviation to remember these 5 clauses is “SRIBC”.
S=Sell/R=Remit/I=Invest/B=Borrow/C=Contribute. Have a look at Section-293
and verify yourself.
12. Strategy/technique to prepare Section in Company Law: 1. First read the
Section from Bare Act as bare act contain the pure law passed by legislature. 2.
Then read the same section from your law book (Munish Bhandari). 3. Now it is
the turn of your coaching notes. Read them thoroughly. 4. Now read all the
previous exam problems based on that particular section from book.
If you follow the above 4 points carefully and honestly then you may consider
your section finished for life. Believe me and try this method.
13. ATLAS STUDY METHOD: This method is completely developed and named by me
and is extremely helpful for fetching good marks. ATLAS STANDS FOR “AT LAST”.
There are always some questions, formulas, Sections and case laws which we
simply fail to recall in exam hall. According to this method if you find anything
very difficult to remember then after preparing the same topic once or twice put
it in the ATLAS. Keep putting difficult topics in ATLAS till exam date. There would
be a different ATLAS for law, audit, accounts etc. Now 1.5 hour before leaving
your home for examination hall open ATLAS question list and revise it properly
or give it a special reading. Now if you find any question from ATLAS in the exam
paper it would be very easy for you to answer as you specially revise it just 2-3
hours back and your confidence level will automatically increase in the beginning
of exam. What say???
14. Keep review your ATLAS list and modify it accordingly. If initially you put any
question in ATLAS and now you are confident enough about that particular
question you can remove that question from ATLAS. Don’t put easy and non
important questions in ATLAS as this concept is for revising extra-ordinary
important questions just 2-3 hours before examination. If you need any help
understanding this method please let me know.
15. Don’t play with the language of law specially Definitions. It is strongly
recommended to put the definition in the exact language. However you can take
slight liberty while drafting your answer in respect of other law language but the
context, texture, interpretation and meaning should not be changed.
16. Query Notebook: Keep a query diary with you during study time and note your
queries in this diary and resolve them same day or next day. Do not keep your
query unresolved. You may also take reference of this diary later during exam
time. Also mention the answer of your query in the query diary.
17. Work out on your presentation skills. You may ask your query regarding
presentation skills. Also check my Article on presentation skills.
18. Remember you can use the preparation of Company Law in your Audit paper.
Company Audit –II chapter is based on the company law like Audit of share
capital, share transfer and dividend Audit. Also use same law writing skills in your
Audit paper.
19. Don’t use different notes for one topic. Finalise your notes before starting final
Examination preparation and stick with them.
20. 10 Days before examination date do not add any new topic in your schedule.
Just focus on revision-revision and revision.
21. In Theory papers length of answer plays an important role due to time factor.
Regarding this you may take reference from suggested answers provided by ICAI.
Write your answer according to the marks allocated.
22. Always prepare latest case laws as many times practical problems are based on
recent case laws.
23. Your Health: Take very good care of your health. Consider your health as a
subject. Remember if you fail to perform well in this subject you are going to fail.
24. Plan your answer: Your exam preparation should be such that when you first
see the question the entire answer should be in your mind. It will help you to
plan the length of your answer according to the availability of time.
25. Time saving method: As per my opinion in theory paper you should attempt flat
questions first. After that attempt practical problems. Like in Audit or Law first
attempt short notes or distinctions etc. In the beginning if you attempt practical
problems first then there may be wastage of time in reading the problem twice
or thrice.
26. Complete your paper: Try and make an effort to complete your paper 100%. In
other words attempt full paper of 100 marks. You may cut the length of your
answer in the end as per the availability of time.
27. Make Point & give heading: In other words write your answer to the point. Try
and convert the paragraphs in to points and give them a heading like I am giving
in this Article. However if during exam you have no time then avoid this practice.
But it’s a very good technique of theory presentation.
28. Presentation Skills: Don’t forget to read my Article on presentation skills along
with this Article.
You may find this Article a bit lengthy and with some strict and difficult instructions but
give it a composed reading as all the points have a relevant connection with your
preparation. You can easily observe every point if you understand them properly and
prepare your mind accordingly. Later on you may interpret it accordingly. This is my best
Article on Caclubindia for you all and contains almost all the points moving in my mind. I
would advise you to bookmark this page for quick reference. If you like this Article kindly
appreciate it by posting your comments.

Simple Exam Preparation Tips....By Ankur Garg

Simple Exam Preparation Tips
1. Figure out your mistake committed in the previous Examination and
promise yourself to avoid them in your next exam.
2. Focus on your Study and Goal.
3. Try and complete your Scanner with the help of suggested answers
of previous examinations.
4. Plan your revision schedule as early as possible and follow the same
honestly and keep reviewing it and make necessary changes as and
when necessary.
5. Invest your time in Exam oriented discussion. There are two
advantage of this activity:
i. You may discuss your problems in such discussions and resolve
them.
ii. These discussions will also help you to focus on your goal.
6. Work out on your presentation skills. You may post your query
regarding presentation skills. Also check my Article on presentation
skills.
7. In examination hall length of answer plays an important role due to
time factor. Regarding this you may take reference from suggested
answers provided by ICAI.
8. Mental strength is very important. So prepare yourself mentally and
physically for Examination cum War.

9. Use the catchline – “CA ko niptana hai”. CA bola to Chartered
Accountancy Course and not your boss where you are doing your
Article ship. Ha Ha Ha.
10.Very Important Revision Tips: What you prepare on Monday try and
recall it on Tuesday without using books. If you are able to recall
60%-70%, then you are 100% going to succeed in this examination.
Again try to recall the same after the gap of 2-3 days.
11.Use abbreviation method. If you have 10 points to remember in a
question give them a certain abbreviation and remember that
abbreviation. See the example below:
In section 293 of Companies Act, 1956 there are 5 clauses from (a) to
(e). My abbreviation to remember these 5 clauses is “SRIBC”.
S=Sell/R=Remit/I=Invest/B=Borrow/C=Contribute. Have a look at
Section-293 and verify yourself.
12.Stay away from Time wasting and unproductive habits. At least
during exam times.
13.Prepare a list of questions which you consider tuff or a bit time
consuming. Prepare a handout yourself with solution of these
questions and give them a reading on regularly basis with a time gap
of 2-3 days.
14.Prepare a list of frequently asked questions with the help of Scanner
and practice them properly.
15.Give a little bit time to every subject per day.
16.Try and increase your study time day by day.
17.After 25 October do not add any new topic in your schedule. Just
focus on revision-revision and revision.

18.Stop collecting different notes per day. Try and figure out the notes
which are relevant for you and support your style of study. Only use
them for exam purpose.
19.Take very good care of your health. Consider your health as a subject.
Remember if you fail to perform well in this subject you are going to
fail.
20.Last but not the least believe in yourself and your hard work and
most importantly believe in God.

CS Executive: Exam Preparation Tips for GCL_Group-I By Ankur Garg

Dear Friends,
I would like to dedicate this brief write up to the CS Executive students which is about how to perform well and score in the General and Commercial Law (GCL) subject of CS Executive course.
First we have to understand that General and Commercial Law (GCL) is a very scoring subject compare to the other subjects of CS, provided we know the exam pattern. If you use your working knowledge of General and Commercial Law (GCL) Acts which you have gained from ICSI study material with good writing skills than you can score around 70  marks in General and Commercial Law (GCL) which is very good to ensure more than 50 % aggregate marks.
Kindly note – only working knowledge is enough in General and Commercial Law (GCL) with certain other facts. Reason being the acts which are there in the General and Commercial Law (GCL) Course have no such application in your professional working if you are working purely as a Company Secretary.
ROLE OR USE OF PREVIOUS YEARS’ ICSI GUIDELINES ANSWERS
General and Commercial Law (GCL) is a practical (theory based and not numerical based) paper which needs a good presentation skills. As per my suggestion use ICSI guidelines for previous 5 years to understand the method of solving practical queries. One more thing these practical queries takes very little time in exam provided you are well aware of the technique to deal with them. This is a very important point for time saving.
ROLE OF SCANNER IN GCL PREPARATION
Another important fact is that the ICSI repeatedly asked the same practical queries so in this way completion of scanner is very very important in General and Commercial Law (GCL). Use Scanner from the very beginning. It helps you to recognize which chapter is to be given preference. Prepare a list of Chapter wise frequently asked questions from the Scanner and prepare them properly.
Another useful aspect of practical queries is that sometimes they also help you to understand the theory written in study material. In other words you may use the practical queries as an example to understand the theory written in study material. Isa kehta hain ek teer do shikar. I am sure that this suggestion would be of some help.
Regarding chapters I’d like to say that start your preparation from the small chapters (page number wise). Refer the scanner at the same time to understand the scheme and importance of chapter. As per my understanding main advantage of starting with short chapters is that this trick will help you to settle your mind with technical and legal language of General and Commercial Law (GCL).
ROLE OF STUDY MATERIAL
In General and Commercial Law (GCL) you have to deal with objective questions which requires through knowledge of the subject. So keeping in view this requirement we may conclude that importance of study material cannot be denied. To deal with objective or multiple choice questions true knowledge of topic is must and which can be achieved by referring to the study material.

Treat the chapters of Cr. P.C. and C.P.C. as most interesting and knowledgeable chapters as you are going to learn about the civil and criminal law of the country. Attach a different attitude with different chapters as it’ll help you to develop an interest towards the chapter.
Make special notes for the chapter constitution of India and grab this chapter fully as this one is the most important one. Discuss some technical chapters like Indian Evidence Act with your friend for better understanding. For conventional list of important chapters use Scanner.
FEW GENERAL TIPS TO DEAL WITH GCL PRESENTATION
1. In practical problems never start your answer with Yes or No unless you are 100% sure. First mention the relevant provision and show/prove through your answer how you draw the conclusion.
One more thing if by chance you are familiar with the question (previously asked in exam) or you know the answer then start your answer with Yes or No with full confidence and prove the same with the help of analysis of provision.
2. Try and always mention the relevant section along with the provision. However, if you are not sure then avoid it.
3. Always use case laws in the exam. Prepare a special case law file especially for the preparation of the chapter constitution of India. Learn all the case laws given in this chapter.
4. During your preparation try and study everything. Everything here means each and every topic. The basic idea behind this point is that you must have something relevant to write about the given topic.
5. Try and make an effort to complete your paper 100%. In other words attempt full paper of 100 marks. You may cut the length of your answer in the end as per the availability of time.
